Louis obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBCh) in 1980 from the University of the Witwatersrand. After training in Radiology at the South African College of Radiology, he completed a fellowship of the Faculty of Radiology Diagnostics (South Africa) in 1987.

Louis was designated as part of the official medical team for the Rugby World Cup 96 and the Under 21 World Cup 2002. He was also the designated as official radiologist of the Cricket World Cup held in SA in 2003 and more recently in 2010 appointed on the medical team for the Soccer World Cup.

Louis has been a medical director and worked at Rosebank X-ray since 1990 in private practice with experience across a broad spectrum of radiology procedures. Considered an authority in the area of musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and abdominal CT scanning. Performs complex intricate procedures in the practice. He consults to other radiologists from within and outside of the practice on the interpretation of all investigations. He also consults to the radiological profession on the suitability of equipment and machine performance. Lectures to Radiology Residents (Registrars) preparing for FCR examinations. Addresses medical, professional and other interested groups on interpretation sports injuries.

Over the years this practice has been built into one of the leading facilities of its kind handling +- 250 patients a day, operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Patients are recommended to the practices by referring physicians and specialists and through the use of active radiological marketing and educational programs. Patients have included statesmen such as President Nelson Mandela and Goodwill Zwelitinin.

Louis also enjoys his family life and is very involved in the youth community. He is an avid sportsman who is still, a very active golfer.
